・あまり上手ではない・・・veryがつくことで「あまり」と、否定が和らぎます。veryがないと「上手ではない」と手厳しくなります。
・歌も踊りも上手でない・・・毎度言いますがandではなくorですね。
・（何度も）辞めようとした・・・be about toは辞書にbe going to ～ soonと説明があります。すぐにもしようとする・・・ことですね。

Readers’ Corner: Rooting for My Idol
I have been rooting for an idol since I was an elementary school student. She is Akari Ozora, a character of Aikatsu. She always does her best. I want to try hard like her. She was not very good at singing or dancing, so she was a poor student in the school for girl idols. She was about to give up many times, but each time she was able to continue because she dreamed of giving happiness to those who watched her, like the idols before her. She finally became the top idol in the school. I have been fascinated by Akari Ozora and will continue to root for her forever.
