JHS Essay, Honorable Mention: Rice Cake Incident
The New Year is very important in Japan and one essential thing is “rice cake”! We buy a freshly made sheet of rice cake every year and cut it into pieces at home. This year, something happened. I was cutting it as usual, but before long, I noticed something unusual. The shape of its edge looked strange, as if a mouse had bit it. I continued cutting and finally discovered the criminal! It was Mom! Mom approached me quietly, tore off an edge and brought it to her mouth! “Mom!” I shouted, but she put the rice cake into my open mouth. I ate it. It was surprisingly delicious!
