今日の話は人がたくさん出てきてややこしいですね。そのうえ舞台が二つあって、時差もあって、読む力が鍛えられます。
★学びたい英語/まねたい英語（特にお手本と思うところ）
・「～する機会を得た」というget to覚えておくと便利です。
ここでは妹の子供たち孫たちと話すことができた･･･と希望がかなったことをいっていますが、逆に英語を話すとき９９％の生徒さんが「～することができた」をcouldを使って誤ります。
例：楽しい時間を過ごすことができた→×I could spend a good time･･･これは間違いで、正しくは単にI spent a good time.あるいはI got to spend a good time.です。

Birthdays on Two Continents
My sister called me on the night of March 14 (Sunday morning in Japan). She was having a birthday party for her husband. It was a family affair, so I got to talk to her children and her grandson. On Sunday evening (Japan time), we had a birthday party for my wife’s sister’s husband and for our son-in-law. They both have birthdays in March. Our birthday party was also a family affair. I think everyone enjoyed the parties, but no one could forget the coronavirus. My sister’s son and his girlfriend are disappointed because they can’t watch any sports, and both have to work from home.
