A Wonderful Message from an Unlucky Loser
The 2023 World Athletics Championships are being held in Budapest, Hungary, right now. The women’s 10,000-meter race on August 19 was full of drama. The leader was Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands. She was followed by Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia and two other Ethiopian runners. It was going to be a close race, but Hassan tripped and fell just before the finish line. Tsegay got the gold, and the other two Ethiopians got the silver and bronze medals. After the race, unlucky Hassan said, “Things happen, whether you want them to or not. It is not the end of the world. Life is always up and down, and that’s what makes life beautiful. There’s always light after dark.” What a wonderful message!
