・亡くなったことが１週間もかかって発表された･･･その思いがonlyになっていますね。いつも言いますが英語のonlyを表すにはいろいろな日本語が必要になりますね
・彼は日本の外でも人気があった･･･as well、too、also、似た言葉がありますね
・このdidn’t followはよく知らなかった程度のことなのでしょうね。面白い使い方ですね
・人気が高く中国で教えるよう迎えられるほどだった･･･so thatの使い道は広いですね

Goodbye, Tanimura Shinji!
Tanimura Shinji passed away a week ago, but the news only came out yesterday. He became famous in the 1970s and was popular outside Japan as well, especially in China. He started a band called Alice along with Horiuchi Takao and Yazawa Toru. He was a guitarist and singer, but he also was a songwriter. Alice became so popular that they played at the Budokan in Tokyo, a place usually used by big-name foreign bands. My wife remembers one of Alice’s hit songs, “Champion.” I didn’t follow Alice at the time, but I remember a Yamaguchi Momoe song that Tanimura wrote called “Ii tabidachi” and a song that he sang himself, “Subaru.” Tanimura was so popular in China that he was invited to teach music at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
