Readers’ Corner: The Earth Is Getting Hotter
The opening ceremony of the Summer Koshien was held last Saturday. Whenever I see the ceremony, it feels so special. The high school baseball tournament is one of the big summer events in Japan. More than 50 years ago, watching baseball games was one of my favorite things to do during the summer holidays. I had no problem living without air conditioning or an electric fan then, but now I watch it in an air-conditioned room. The temperatures are getting higher, and the heat could be dangerous for students who play baseball during the daytime. The High School Baseball Federation is thinking of changing to morning and evening games. One thing is for sure: the Earth is obviously getting hotter and hotter.
