Kabuki and Virtual Reality
My wife and I went to a special kabuki performance called “Chokabuki” yesterday. There were kabuki actors and a virtual idol called Hatsune Miku. I was impressed by how real Hatsune Miku looked on stage. I liked the way the kabuki actors began by explaining how people work behind the scenes: the musicians, the woodblock sound effects man, and the “kuroko.” Neither my wife nor I really understood the story, but there was a lot of dancing and fighting. The actors and acrobats were amazing. Many people in the audience waved penlights or their cellphone flashlights to show their appreciation. This may be a great way to get younger people interested in kabuki.
