Shaved Ice Day
Yesterday was Shaved Ice Day, but I don’t think it’s too late to eat it today or any day in summer. It is one of the pleasures of summer in Japan. Shaved ice used to come in simple flavors: strawberry, lemon, blue Hawaii, milk syrup, and green tea with or without sweet beans, but it is getting fancier these days. For example, there is a fruit cafe in Tokyo that specializes in fruit-based shaved ice. Two of the most popular kinds are strawberries and milk syrup and peaches and milk syrup. They use real fruit and make beautiful Instagram photos, but how much are you willing to spend on shaved ice? The most expensive kind costs more than 3,000 yen!
