Sea Horse or Baby Dragon?
Each culture looks at nature in its own way. I am from an English-speaking country, and we look at the little “fish” that floats in the sea and think that its head looks of the head of a horse. That’s why we call it a “sea horse.” To people in Japan, the same fish looks like a dragon, so they call it a dragon baby (“tatsu-no-otoshigo”). The same thing happens with birds. One duck is called a “goldeneye” in English because its eyes are a bright yellow. It also has white cheeks, so it is called a white-cheeked duck (“hojirogamo”) in Japanese.
