・日付のリストですから年表のことですね。でもdateは日付よりもっと大きく年も表すことがわかりますね。
・このfollowはどう考えればいいでしょうか。ついていく/従うというのがfollowの基本の意味ですが、そこからもっともっと広がって、語る/扱う/紹介する・・・と言った日本語にも相当しますね。あえて訳さずfollowのまま感じ取ると次から使えるかもしれません。

History is a Drama
When you think of history, what do you think of? Many students think of a list of dates that they had to memorize for a test, but to me, history is a story. It is full of interesting people and events. I have been listening to “The History of Rome,” a podcast that starts at the beginning of Roman history about 2500 years ago and continues for over 1000 years. It follows Rome from its beginnings as a small town and shows how it became one of the greatest cities of the world. It follows the leaders and tells us how they lived and how they made one of the biggest empires that the world has ever seen. To me, it is like a TV drama that I can’t stop watching.
